Lecture Series

Lectures are a great way to enhance your Fallingwater experience.  Offered on Thursday, lectures are led by a senior member of  the Education Department staff, lectures are designed for an adult audience, but are also suitable for college and high school students.  Groups planning to tour Fallingwater may also make special arrangements for a lecture to be offered as a part of their visit.

Fallingwater Structure:
Why Fallingwater Isn't Falling Down

A discussion of the history of the house, the origins of the architectural and engineering
concepts and the architect client relationship provide the opening for this lecture.
Then the question of why Fallingwater isn't falling down is answered as you explore
the process of discovering and evaluating the structural issues at Fallingwater
and creative ways of remediating them without compromising the historic
significance of the structure or site.

Available:  Every other Thursday beginning May 3
The Art of Fallingwater:
The Kaufmann Collection in Context

Spend time viewing the Kaufmann family's collection of art in the context of their department
store and vacation home, Fallingwater. This lecture covers many portions of the Kaufmann
Family collection that is part of the Fallingwater experience.  Works by Rivera, Magaña,
Velasco, Pribble, Picasso, Hiroshige and Audubon will be shown as part of this art collection retrospective.

Available:  Every other Thursday beginning May 10
$5.00 per person when purchased with a house tour
$20.00 per person without a tour

Advance ticket purchase suggested

The lecture is not held in Fallingwater itself, but at The Barn at Fallingwater. The Barn is a late 1800s' Pennsylvania bank barn that was once part of the Kaufmann’s dairy farm. Today this LEED certified building has been adapted for other uses including meeting and gathering space.  When planning a lecture as a part of your visit we suggest you allow at least three hours on site and schedule your tour no later than 12 noon or no earlier than 3:30 pm.

Focus Tour

You and your guests (between 2-6 people) will experience the structure that—perhaps better than any other—exemplifies Wright’s concept of organic architecture. This private extended tour, led by a member of our senior staff, will explore your particular interests in Fallingwater in a very personal, one-on-one setting. Your tour will begin with a walk down the original drive to the house and end with a private luncheon at a distinctive Fallingwater location where you will indulge in seasonal dishes prepared by our on-site chef.  After lunch, you may stroll to the spot where photographers have long captured “the classic view” of the iconic house rising above the waterfall—a perfect location for a photo to remind you of your unique Fallingwater visit. Interior still photography is permitted for personal use only and children nine years and older may share in this experience.
