In Fallingwater, Wright meant to conquer every confining element of the building. He pierces walls with bands of glass, opens ceilings with skylights, and penetrates the living room floor with a telescoping hatch. The hatch’s glass top slides back and doors swing out to reveal steps descending to the stream, providing a physical link between inside and outside space.
