To Wright, the tower was a great vertical light screen: a shaft of glass that could manifest the rift between the chimney and the stone wall at the west side of the house. Wright’s ingenuity is evident as he worked to blur the line between inside and out. Where glass meets the ragged profiles of stone walls, it runs directly into chases in the stonework. This seemingly effortless penetration enhances the character of each material by contrasting it to the other.
